GotLiveChat.com,
based out of upstate New York, is a relative newcomer to live support
services. But with their free web-based Agent/Operator console they
appear to be marketing themselves to users of all operating systems
since all the latest browsers are supported (jump to common live
help software questions & comments at bottom of this review).
Signing up for their free live support service, like many other
providers, was easy. I liked that minimal information was requested
to get started (as too many times providers ask for more information
than I'm ready to give out when testing a service). From there I
copied & pasted the tracking HTML coding into my site.
Their operator/agent console is entirely web-based so the operating
system and web browser I was using didn't matter. I like web-based
consoles because it allows me to use any operating system to access
it. This is something you need to watch for with other live help
providers because they sometimes require you download extra software
that requires a certain operating system and version!
Once logged in, the console was simple to use. I could see the
current visitors to my website, initiate chats with them, change
my status from online/offline easily, and add additional operators
(to test with friends) as needed. I tested using the console from
behind firewalls, and with other Linux and Windows-based computers
-- both worked as expected.
After exchanging a few emails with them, my understanding is that
they're always working on developing new features. They asked for
my feedback and I suggested maybe more reporting available would
be helpful, and they said it was under development. They seem to
be open to suggestions so contact them if needed.
For a free live help service they certainly offer quite a few features.
While not offering extensive reporting, their basic monitoring and
live chat capabilities make the service worth checking out.
